Chase summary 3-7-2000
I left OUN at 1150am headed north to I-40 planning to go out west as planned in my chase forecast. I followed I-40 west all the way to Exit #5 and then took Hwy 30 south when precip began there near 1:30 pm. My thinking was that despite the very weak showers that I would move further south into hopefully greater instability.
After moving south to the intersection of 30 and 9, I hung around that area for about 30 minutes watching some small towers go up to north around by 240pm.

Those storms did not do well and nothing looked good to the south from my location. My belief at that point was that the cap was not going to break in western Oklahoma so I headed west on I-40 toward Wellington, TX. As I got into Texas, blowing dirt carried by the about 30mph SE winds were severely limiting visibility to the west. After getting a drink at the Allsups in Wellington, I could finally make out a storm to the east-northeast.

And, I could see the leading edge of the gust front to the west even though the storms themselves were obscured by blowing dirt and low clouds.
At this point, I could not see any addtional storms and was not aware of whether this was an individual storm or the main "line" of storms. I moved south with the plan to let the storm move ahead of me and give me a better view. A few minutes south of Wellington, I ran into the gustfront.
Seconds later, I could see a well defined outline of the gust front above the ground...

After getting passed by the squall line with small hail I proceeded east on US 62 back toward Altus. Since I was then moving back toward the east, I got to see a rather impressive "dust foot" which appeared to blow dirt back up to the cloud base. Very impressive.

I followed the line back to the east and got back home at 9:38 PM. The drive was 387.3 miles.
